As early as may 1957, Mr. Hu Chengzhi of China Geological Museum found a well preserved reptile fossil in Lvyin village, Dingxiao Town, Xingyi, Qianxinan Buyi and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Southwest Guizhou Province. Later, Professor Chung-Chien Young, director of the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, named "keichousaurus Hui" in memory of Mr. Chengzhi Hu, the fossil discoverer.
