Can see, can play, can learn... On weekends and holidays, the museum of Xingyi National Geopark is always busy, and the fossils of Guizhou dragon, crinoids and Xingyi's unique Wushafei fish attract many students and tourists to visit, to explore the remains of ancient life more than 200 million years ago.
As the treasure of the town hall, the ichthyosaur fossil of Guizhou is the most attractive. According to the staff, this fossil was transferred to this exhibition after being excavated from the in-situ hall of Xingyi National Geopark. It is 5.2 meters long and similar to today's tuna. It belongs to ovoviviparous animals and breathes with lungs. It took two fossil restorers at the museum 13 months to complete the restoration before it was revealed to us.
"The probability of fossil formation is very low, so fossil restoration is very meaningful, and fossil restoration needs to use a microscope to observe its structure and form, and then use a pneumatic blade gun to slowly repair it, strip the surrounding rock above, and expose its bone structure." "When it comes to fossils that are difficult to restore, we can only restore about one centimeter in eight hours a day." In the fossil restoration room of the museum, Wang Yunzhong, the fossil restorer of Xingyi National Geological Park Museum, focused his eyes on the fossil specimen through the microscope eyepiece, and kept carving on the fossil with an electric carving knife in his hand. He carefully "woke up" the Guizhou dragon fossil with his hands, attracting a lot of excited teenagers to watch. The teenagers also raised doubts from time to time, and Wang Yunzhong would patiently answer them.
For a time, the fossil restoration room has become a "walking classroom" for teenagers to appreciate the charm of nature and learn popular science knowledge. Here, we have a dialogue through time and space with the Triassic paleontological stone groups dating back more than 200 million years, which is the research welfare granted by the Xingyi National Geopark Museum to the majority of teenagers and even adults.
"Today, I went with the fossil restoration teacher to collect fossil fragments, learn about our Guizhou Triassic fossil group civilization, and see how they restore fossils. I felt very interesting." Du Yanchen, a student from Class 9, Grade 2, Xingyi Sunshine Primary School, said he learned a lot of knowledge in Xingyi National Geopark Museum that he had never explored in class.
It is reported that the Xingyi National Geopark Museum is positioned to refine the theme story, highlight the display of specimens, and meet the needs of science popularization, and has created a geopark museum that integrates the five hearts of "science popularization + information + tourists + leisure + entertainment". There are six exhibition halls in the museum, including Xingyi area and Xingyi fauna, the reasons and evolution of Marine animals going to the sea, Marine reptiles from Xingyi to the ocean, the biodiversity of Xingyi fauna, the relationship between Xingyi fauna and other Triassic Marine reptile fauna in South China, Xingyi National Geopark landscape and cultural characteristics, which are open to the public free of charge. At the same time, the museum makes full use of its resource advantages to give full play to its social education function, especially to do research reception service for the majority of young people, to do a good job in exchanges and cooperation with schools and research institutions around the world, and to actively plan scientific and educational activities such as research activities, popular science exhibitions, popular science lectures, etc. And launched the fossil model production, in situ museum fossil fragment collection experience, rubbings production and other experience projects, really let young people "learn" in the tour.
